Fiji to Welcome High-Level Ministerial Visit from Australia this Week

In commemoration of his 84th birthday, Dr. Chumpol Phornprapha, Honorary Consular General of the Republic of Fiji to the Kingdom of Thailand, graciously donated a Yanmar Tractor equipped with essential accessories to the Government of Fiji. Valued at FJD 50,000 inclusive of freight, the donation was intended to support national efforts in strengthening sugar and agricultural development.
The contribution was formally presented to H.E Ratu Etueni Qiolele Caucau, Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Fiji to the Kingdom of Thailand and Resident High Commissioner of the Republic of Fiji to Malaysia, for onward delivery to the Minister for Agriculture and Sugar, Hon. Tomasi Tunabuna. During the handover ceremony, Dr. Phornprapha expressed his gratitude to the High Commissioner, noting that the gift reflected his enduring commitment to the people of Fiji and a shared vision to uplift sugar and agricultural livelihoods.
In receiving the tractor, High Commissioner Caucau conveyed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the Fiji Government. He emphasized that the initiative directly addressed Fiji’s growing demand for modern agricultural solutions and sustainable farming technology, which are vital for long-term productivity and prosperity. He further affirmed Government’s commitment to ensuring the tractor’s effective use to generate meaningful returns and lasting benefits for Fiji’s farming communities.
The High Commissioner also extended sincere appreciation to Honorary Consul Dr. Chumpol Phornprapha and Mr. Ryosuke Yamaguchi, President of Yanmar Company Ltd., for their exemplary support. He expressed optimism for the continued advancement of bilateral and diplomatic cooperation between Fiji, Thailand, and Yanmar S.P Company Ltd.
Additionally, the High Commissioner congratulated Dr. Phornprapha on his recent appointment by His Majesty the King of Thailand as President of the University Council of Srinakharinwirot University.
The tractor, which was successfully cleared last week by Director Sugar, Mr. Praneel Naidu and his team in Lautoka, is now awaiting registration with the Land Transport Authority (LTA). Once registered, it will be fully operational and ready for deployment to support Fiji’s agricultural sector.
The Hon. Tomasi Tunabuna expressed his appreciation to Honorary Consul Dr. Chumpol Phornprapha for the generous donation, noting its importance in strengthening Fiji’s sugar and agricultural sector. He emphasized that the tractor would boost farming productivity and support sustainable development, while also acknowledging the enduring friendship and support from Dr. Phornprapha and Yanmar Company Ltd.
