Fiji–Korea Relations Strengthened

Fiji and the Republic of Korea have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening development cooperation across key sectors, including climate change, education, health, maritime affairs, trade and investment, and people-to-people exchanges.
The commitment was reaffirmed today at the official relocation ceremony of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Fiji to its new premises on Level 8 of Fijian Holdings Limited (FHL) Tower in Suva.
The ceremony was officiated by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Fiji, His Excellency Kwon Young-Seup.
Speaking as Guest of Honour, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, congratulated the Government and people of the Republic of Korea on this important milestone. He expressed Fiji’s readiness to further strengthen bilateral relations with Korea for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples.
“As an important development partner, the Republic of Korea has contributed valuable expertise in technological advancement, development experience and international cooperation, creating meaningful opportunities for collaboration as we work towards a more resilient and sustainable future.”
“Fiji deeply values the Republic of Korea as a trusted and respected partner, and we are grateful for its continued support through initiatives such as KOICA, as well as its deepening engagement in Fiji and across the wider Pacific,” Hon. Ditoka said.
Hon. Ditoka commended the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for its continued support for Fiji’s development priorities through a range of initiatives, including:
- Digital Capacity Building for Women (2026–2029)
- National Rehabilitation Centre (2023–ongoing)
- Renewable Energy Expansion and Capacity Development
- Strengthening Health Adaptation Project (SHAPE)
The Minister also acknowledged the enduring friendship and cooperation between Fiji and Korea, reflecting on his recent official visit to the Republic of Korea as an important demonstration of the growing diplomatic engagement and close cooperation between the two countries.
The relocation of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea comes as Fiji and Korea mark 10 years since the establishment of the KOICA Office in Fiji, which also serves as KOICA’s Pacific regional office supporting 12 Pacific Island countries.
Today’s occasion symbolises the enduring commitment to strengthening the Fiji–Korea partnership and creating new opportunities for cooperation for the benefit of both countries and the wider Pacific region.
