Fiji remains committed to strengthening its partnership with the Pacific Community (SPC) to advance shared development priorities, deepen regional cooperation and realise the collective vision of a peaceful, resilient and prosperous Blue Pacific Continent.
This commitment was highlighted at the SPC’s 56th Meeting of the Committee of Representatives of Governments and Administrations (CRGA 56), held from 27 to 28 October 2026 at SPC’s headquarters in Noumea, New Caledonia.
Fiji is represented at the meeting by the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Ambassador Solo Mara, marking his first regional engagement since assuming his role at the Ministry.
Ambassador Mara acknowledged SPC’s valuable contribution to Fiji’s development, particularly in climate resilience, fisheries, agriculture, food security and public health.
The CRGA 56 meeting was officially opened by SPC Director-General, Dr Paula Vivili, who asserted SPC’s commitment to working closely with its members to advance national development priorities while strengthening the organisation’s efficiency and effectiveness in delivering tangible and sustainable development outcomes across the Pacific.
Key discussions at CRGA 56 include progress on the implementation of the SPC’s 2022-2031 Strategic Plan, the SPC’s OneSPC Transformation Programme, and SPC’s contribution to strengthening regional cooperation.
Established in 1947, SPC is the Pacific’s oldest regional organisation and a leading scientific and technical institution. Governed by 27 member countries and territories, it provides specialised expertise across a broad range of sectors, including fisheries science, public health surveillance, geoscience and the conservation of plant genetic resources to support food security.
With its headquarters in Noumea and a major regional office in Suva, SPC remains a valued regional institution for Fiji and the wider Pacific, supporting evidence-based decision-making, regional cooperation and sustainable development.
