The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Dr. Raijeli Taga, received a courtesy call from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Hiroji Tajima, on Wednesday (15.04.2026), reaffirming bilateral ties under the Fiji–Japan Lomavata Kizuna Partnership signed on 13 November 2025.
Dr. Taga warmly welcomed Ambassador Tajima and expressed Fiji’s deep appreciation for Japan’s steadfast partnership and support across key development priorities.
She acknowledged the significant strides made under the Lomavata Kizuna Partnership, noting the milestones achieved during Ambassador Tajima’s tenure across a wide range of sectors, including socio-economic cooperation, infrastructure development, defence, security, and governance, which reflect the depth and breadth of the bilateral relationship.
Dr. Taga reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Japan on shared Pacific priorities, including climate resilience, ocean governance, and disaster risk reduction, and expressed confidence that the partnership would continue to grow from strength to strength in the years ahead.
Ambassador Tajima expressed deep appreciation for the warm welcome and the opportunity to further strengthen the enduring friendship between Japan and Fiji. He affirmed that Japan and Fiji share a bond rooted in mutual respect, trust, and a common vision for a peaceful and prosperous Pacific, describing the Lomavata Kizuna Partnership as a living commitment between the two peoples rather than merely an agreement. He said it was an honour to serve as a bridge between the two nations at this pivotal time.
H.E. Tajima acknowledged climate change as a defining shared challenge and underscored Japan’s continued support for Pacific resilience through infrastructure, ocean governance, and disaster risk reduction. He also expressed optimism for progress ahead of the 11th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM-11) in 2027.
The meeting reaffirmed the enduring Fiji–Japan partnership, with both sides committed to advancing shared Pacific priorities ahead of PALM-11 in 2027.
