Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka is travelling to Papua New Guinea today to attend the inaugural Melanesian Ocean Summit.
At the invitation of the Government of Papua New Guinea, Hon. Rabuka’s participation reaffirms Fiji’s commitment to strengthened regional cooperation on ocean governance, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
The Prime Minister’s visit is fully funded by the Government of Papua New Guinea.
The Summit will be attended by Melanesian leaders, regional organisations, development partners, and ocean experts, where discussions will focus on advancing the Pacific’s agenda on protecting and sustainably managing the region’s vast ocean resources.
Prime Minister Rabuka is expected to engage in high-level discussions focused on marine protection, fisheries sustainability, climate adaptation, and strengthening traditional stewardship practices across the Melanesian region.
He will also meet with the Fijian diaspora in Port Moresby.
The Hon. Prime Minister is accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka and the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry Hon. Alitia Bainivalu.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Hon. Filimoni Vosarogo will act as Prime Minister while Hon. Rabuka is away on official duty travel.
