The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Honourable Lenora Qereqeretabua received an introductory courtesy call from the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Fiji, His Excellency Hiroshi Tajima, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Suva on Friday 7th May 2026.
In her remarks, Hon. Qereqeretabua congratulated Ambassador Tajima and wished him well for his diplomatic tenure. She further noted that Fiji-Japan bilateral relations were elevated through the signing of the “Lomavata Kizuna Partnership” agreement last year, reflecting the deep bonds of friendship, trust, and shared aspirations between the two nations.
Hon. Qereqeretabua acknowledged the significant contributions of the Government of Japan, including through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in supporting socio-economic development, disaster risk reduction, and the development of sustainable and resilient infrastructure in Fiji.
Discussions during the meeting also focused on the implementation of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, which represents the region’s collective vision for a resilient, sustainable, and prosperous Pacific.
Ambassador Tajima expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership with Fiji.
He acknowledged the strong and enduring ties between the two countries and conveyed Japan’s readiness to continue supporting Fiji’s development priorities, regional initiatives, and cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between Fiji and Japan and underscored the shared commitment of both countries to further deepen bilateral cooperation for the mutual benefit of their peoples and the wider Indo-Pacific region.
