The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade hosted a formal networking event this evening at the Holiday Inn, Suva, for the 2026 New Zealand–Fiji Business Council (NZFBC) Mission to Fiji. The event brought together New Zealand business leaders, Fiji Government officials, and private sector representatives to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties between Fiji and New Zealand.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon Sakiasi Ditoka reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to strengthening trade and investment relations with New Zealand, describing the bilateral partnership as deep-rooted and enduring. He highlighted Government reforms aimed at streamlining investment processes and strengthening regulatory frameworks, positioning Fiji as a Pacific destination of choice across priority sectors, including renewable energy, agribusiness, information and communications technology (ICT), tourism, the blue economy, and health and education services.
The Minister Ditoka encouraged both delegations to move beyond identifying opportunities and focus on translating them into tangible investments, joint ventures, and commercial partnerships that create employment and deliver benefits for both countries. He called on participants to use the networking event as a platform to build meaningful connections and explore new avenues for collaboration.
In his remarks, the President of the NZFBC, Mr. Chandar Sen, echoed these sentiments, affirming that Fiji is open for business and acknowledging the strong and continued support of the Government of Fiji in fostering an enabling environment for trade and investment. He noted the importance of strengthening commercial linkages between businesses in both countries and welcomed the opportunities for engagement facilitated through the mission.
New Zealand remains one of Fiji’s key trading partners, with two-way trade encompassing goods, services, and investment across a wide range of sectors. It is also one of Fiji’s largest source markets for visitors, reflecting the strong economic, people-to-people, and and cultural links that underpin the relations between the two countries.
The 2026 Business Mission includes site visits, business meetings, and direct engagement with key Fiji Government representatives and industry stakeholders. The mission provides an opportunity to identify new areas of cooperation, deepen existing partnerships, and promote mutually beneficial investment and trade opportunities.
