Hon. Ditoka Receives Farewell Call From German Ambassador And Special Envoy

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, today received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, His Excellency Néstor Enrique Torres Olivera, marking the commencement of his diplomatic posting to Fiji.
Hon. Ditoka congratulated Ambassador Olivera on his appointment and expressed confidence that Fiji–Cuba relations will reach new heights under Ambassador Olivera’s leadership.
The Minister acknowledged Cuba’s ongoing support to Fiji, particularly through medical scholarships for Fijian students.. He also highlighted recent areas of cooperation, including the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2024 between Cuba and Fiji’s Ministry of Youth and Sports on sports development, as well as the Visa Exemption Agreement, to generate greater opportunities for trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working collaboratively with the Cuban Embassy to deepen bilateral cooperation across priority areas.
Fiji and Cuba have enjoyed friendly diplomatic relations since 2002, further strengthened by the opening of Cuba’s diplomatic mission in 2019.
