The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua and the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Raijeli Taga were honored to join the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Sashi Kiran, at the International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrations organised by the Indian High Commission at the Civic Centre Auditorium in Suva, yesterday evening (10/3/25).
The event brought together government officials, women leaders and distinguished guests to acknowledge the incredible contributions of women in nation building, peace and prosperity. It was an opportunity to reflect on the progress made and call for action to accelerate gender equality and women empowerment.
It was also a platform for women to share their perspectives on the way forward to build an inclusive society where everyone is treated equally regardless of their gender, ethnicity or background.
Hon. Qereqeretabua in her remarks acknowledged the significant contributions of women towards nation-building and economic development. She highlighted the remarkable contributions of women into Fiji’s foreign services and diplomacy, reaffirming Fiji Government’s commitment to continue to advance equal representation of women into decision making processes at all levels. Fiji’s commitment to gender equality is embedded in Fiji’s Foreign Policy and we remain strong advocates for women’s rights at both regional and global stages.
Further, the Assistant Minister called for a united effort among the stakeholders to expedite the progress towards gender equality and women’s empowerment. At the outset, the Assistant Minister expressed her sincere gratitude to the Indian High Commission for organizing the IWD celebrations which is a testament to the High Commission’s commitment to promote women empowerment.
Additionally, the Permanent Secretary Dr Taga was grateful for the opportunity to join other guest speakers in sharing their leadership journey and perspectives on women’s empowerment, elaborating the importance of women’s participation into all sectors of development.
The event served as a timely reminder of the collective commitment to empower and support women into decision making at every aspect of Fiji’s development.
