Ministry participates at the International Women’s Day hosted by the Indian High Commission

The Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs Team celebrated the International Women’s Day at the Ministry headquarters in Suva, this afternoon.
As the world prepares to mark the significant occasion tomorrow, the Ministry’s event highlighted the indispensable role of women in nation-building and in every aspect of development.
On behalf of the Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua and the Permanent Secretary Foreign Affairs Dr. Raijeli Taga acknowledged the remarkable contributions and dedication of all the women staff based at the Ministry headquarters and women diplomats serving at Fiji’s Missions abroad.
The celebrations recognised the immense contributions of women in Fiji’s foreign services – both currently serving at the Fiji’s Diplomatic Missions in overseas and including those who have served in the past. The event acknowledged the strong commitment and contributions of women diplomats in the advancement of Fiji’s diplomatic relations and collaboration at the global and regional stages.
It also highlighted that women empowerment and gender equality are central to building national peace, prosperity and sustainable development. It further emphasised that a collaborative effort is needed by all the stakeholders to empower women into leadership roles and encourage inclusivity at every aspect of development.
Additionally, the Ministry staff had the opportunity to share their insights on the significance of the celebrations to their personal and professional lives.
As Fiji joins the global community in celebrating this special day tomorrow, the Ministry wishes a Happy International Women’s day to all women in Fiji and across the globe.
The International Women’s Day is observed annually on 8th of March to celebrate the incredible achievements of women and their contribution towards the development of the communities and nations. The theme for this year’s IWD is “Accelerate Action” – with emphasis on the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality.
