Ministry Celebrates International Women’s Day

Fiji and Norway have reaffirmed commitment to deepen cooperation in key areas such as climate change and oceans, peacekeeping, and educational scholarships and training programs. This was conveyed at the courtesy visit paid by the non-resident Ambassador of Norway to Fiji, Her Excellency, Ms Anne Grete Riise to the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Raijeli Taga.
The meeting highlighted current and future avenues for engagements in sustainable development, peace and prosperity.
Dr. Taga thanked Ambassador Riise for her visit and timely discussions which will pave the way forward for the two nations to strengthen the bilateral relations and cooperation.
The discussions explored opportunities to collaborate closely on global peacekeeping and security recognising both the nations’ contributions to the UN peacekeeping missions. Norway is keen to support through the provision of educational scholarships, training and capacity-building programs in areas of interest to Fiji.
Ambassador Riise congratulated Dr. Taga for the recent appointment and reaffirmed Norway’s commitment to deepen engagements aligned to the development aspirations of the two nations.
She acknowledged Fiji’s leadership and advocacy on climate change at regional and global stages, stating that Norway stands ready to support Fiji. Norway is optimistic the partnership will thrive in this area, noting its contributions to the Green Climate Fund.
The meeting outlined initiatives that would support the long-term partnership for mutual benefit of both the nations. Norway and Fiji established diplomatic relations in 1977.
