There is a major focus in Fiji towards promoting sports tourism and the economic benefits that it can provide to the country. Already Fiji has staged some of the major world sports events, such as Super Rugby matches and the Fiji International Golf tournament, and will continue to do so in the future.
The Fiji International is the region’s largest international sporting event that provides Fiji the golden opportunity to further expand its horizons onto the world stage. The event further expanded after a landmark agreement to include the Asian Tour as a new tri-sanctioning partner alongside the ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia and the European Tour. This is a major achievement of Fiji’s sports tourism.
Fiji will continue to host more Super Rugby matches in the coming years, and this will further showcase Fiji’s profile as a premium sporting destination.
Fiji also hosted the ISA World Sup And Paddleboard Championship in 2016 as well as the World Surf League Fiji Pro in 2017.
