Foreign Investment Access
A foreign investment is defined as an investment with any level of shareholding or ownership held by a foreign citizen. The Foreign Investment Act 1999, the Foreign Investment (Amendment) Act 2004 and the Foreign Investment Regulation 2009 govern the facilitation, registration and regulation of foreign investment in the Fiji Islands.
Whilst most people will think of Fiji as a tropical paradise, with its white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, Fiji has so much more to offer with opportunities in every corner of its 333 amazing islands.
The foreign investment legislation provides a simple, transparent and non-discretionary system to facilitate the entry of all foreign investment into the Fiji Islands.
Foreign investments must meet the conditions stipulated in Fiji’s Foreign Investment Act.
All foreign investments are required to obtain a Foreign Investment Registration Certificate (FIRC) from Investment Fiji prior to establishing in Fiji. These registration certificates are issued within 10 days of lodging applications.
Investors have full control over the management of their businesses. They are able to employ foreign personnel, if not available locally, and required to train local personnel to fulfil these roles. Understandably, certain key expatriates can be retained on a continual basis due to investor interests.
Expatriation of funds is straightforward and guided under the Exchange Control guidelines.
Fiji encourages private sector growth and offers attractive incentives to support and facilitate the development of this sector. Areas targeted for growth include information, communications and technology industries, movie production and tourism.
Tourism, Manufacturing, Fisheries, Agriculture, forestry, and Mining are other investment opportunities Fiji has to offer.
