The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade received a farewell call from the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Fiji, His Excellency Adrianus M. M. van der Vorst, marking the successful conclusion of his diplomatic tenure.
Minister Ditoka acknowledged Ambassador Van der Vorst’s commitment to strengthen bilateral relations between Fiji and the Kingdom of Netherlands.
During his tenure, Ambassador committed to learning about Fiji and the region, of the impacts of climate change and the challenges communities face such as discrimination and exclusion. These insights supported Netherland’s cooperation and dialogue with Fiji – noting the mutual respect and trust that defines Fiji–Netherlands relations.
For further collaboration and technical cooperation, the meeting included investors in the infrastructure and water sector from the Kingdom of Netherlands, reiterating the message that the manner in which water management responds to the impacts of climate change will be of considerable consequence for all sectors.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1972, Fiji and the Netherlands have built a dynamic partnership, working closely through multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, to advance global priorities such as peace and security, sustainable development, water management and climate action.
