The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, received a courtesy call on Thursday (02.07.26) from the Special Envoy of the People’s Republic of China to the Pacific Island Countries, His Excellency Qian Bo at MFAET headquarters in Suva.
Hon. Ditoka welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed Fiji- China’s longstanding and comprehensive partnership, spanning over five decades of diplomatic relations. He highlighted expanding cooperation across a broad range of sectors in line with Fiji’s national development priorities.
He expressed appreciation for China’s continued support in key areas of development and reiterated Fiji’s commitment to the One China Principle.
Discussions highlighted opportunities to enhance trade and investment, strengthen business-to-business engagement, and broaden economic cooperation, potential sister-province partnerships for development of Fiji’s rural and maritime regions with a particular focus on Vanua Levu.
It also exchanged views on regional and multilateral developments, including preparations for the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.
Both sides underscored the importance of the Pacific as an “Ocean of Peace” and highlighted the value of constructive cooperation in addressing regional and global challenges.
Special Envoy Bo reaffirmed China’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Fiji across priority areas and advancing shared development objectives.
