PORT VILA – Fiji’s High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, His Excellency Jackson Evans, formally presented his letters of credence as Fiji’s non-resident High Commissioner to Vanuatu to the President of the Republic of Vanuatu, His Excellency Nikenike Vurobaravu, at the State House in Port Vila today (Tuesday 28/4/26).
The ceremony marked the formalisation of Fiji’s diplomatic representation to the Republic of Vanuatu, with the new appointment aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing regional cooperation between the two countries.
During the ceremony, High Commissioner Evans conveyed warm greetings from the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the Prime Minister, Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Honourable Sakiasi Ditoka, and the people of Fiji. President Vurobaravu said that the ceremony signals the rekindling of relations between the two countries varying from trade, climate change and ocean governance.
Commissioned at the State House in Suva in October 2024, High Commissioner Evans brings extensive strategic and leadership experience from numerous senior roles in the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), earning multiple commendations for exemplary leadership and distinguished service in peacekeeping missions in Sinai Peninsula, Lebanon, Timor-Leste and Iraq.
The Fiji High Commission in Port Moresby is now formally accredited to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and the Republic of Vanuatu.
