The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade wishes to advise Fijian exporters and the business community that Fiji’s exports to the United States remain unaffected by the latest tariff measures announced by the United States Administration on 24 July 2026.
Following enquiries from exporters, the Ministry sought clarification through official channels and can confirm that Fiji is not among the economies covered by the additional tariff measures arising from investigations undertaken by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) into trade-related matters with certain economies.
As Fiji was not included within the scope of these investigations, Fiji’s exports to the United States are not subject to the additional tariffs announced under these new measures.
The Ministry also notes publicly available information from the United States Government, including the White House announcement, confirming the conclusion of the temporary tariff action implemented under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974. This temporary 10 per cent tariff measure, applied for a period of 150 days, expired on 24 July 2026. Following its conclusion, tariff treatment for Fiji’s exports has reverted to the rates applicable under the United States Harmonized Tariff Schedule, as applied prior to the introduction of the reciprocal tariff measures.
Businesses that paid tariffs under the earlier reciprocal tariff measures applied between April 2025 and February 2026 may wish to seek guidance on refund processes available through the relevant United States authorities.
The Ministry encourages exporters to continue engaging with the United States market while ensuring compliance with all applicable U.S. import requirements. Exporters who experience any unexpected tariff assessments on their shipments are encouraged to notify the Ministry so that the matter can be reviewed and raised through the appropriate official channels.
The United States remains an important trading partner for Fiji, providing opportunities for Fijian businesses across sectors including fisheries, agriculture, bottled water, kava, garments, timber and other value-added products. The Ministry will continue to monitor international trade developments and engage with relevant partners to safeguard Fiji’s trade interests, ensuring exporters receive timely and accurate information on developments affecting market access.
