Fiji’s Under-18 Women’s Handball Team Ready to Make History

Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Laitia Tamata, met with Fiji’s Under-18 Women’s Handball Team, ahead of their historic debut at the International Handball Federation (IHF) Women’s Youth World Championship, to be held in Romania from 29 July to 9 August 2026.
The 12-member Fijian team will make history as the first Pacific Island nation to compete at this prestigious global championship—an outstanding achievement and a proud milestone for both Fiji and the Pacific region.
Ambassador Tamata congratulated the team on the honour of representing Fiji and wished them every success in the championship. He also highlighted the important role of sports diplomacy in strengthening Fiji’s international profile and fostering international friendship and cooperation.
The team expressed their appreciation to the Fiji Mission in Geneva for its generous support as they prepare for this exciting journey.
