Fiji and Queensland Strengthen Economic, Skills and Investment Cooperation

Fiji’s new envoy to the Republic of Indonesia, Ambassador Ratu Isoa Delamisi Tikoca, formally presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency President Prabowo Subianto during an official ceremony on Tuesday, 9 June, 2026, at the Merdeka Palace (Istana Merdeka) in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The presentation of credentials marks the official commencement of Ambassador Tikoca’s tenure in Indonesia and reaffirms Fiji’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding relations with Southeast Asia’s biggest economy.
Ambassador Tikoca conveyed the warm greetings and well wishes of His Excellency, President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the Government and the people of Fiji to President Prabowo and the people of Indonesia. Ambassador Tikoca also reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
Fiji and Indonesia established diplomatic relations in 1974 and have enjoyed more than five decades of growing cooperation built on mutual respect and shared interests. The relationship has expanded across key sectors including education, agriculture, trade, fisheries, defence cooperation, law enforcement, climate change, technical assistance and people-to-people exchanges.
Recognising Indonesia’s strategic importance in the Asia-Pacific region, Fiji established its resident Embassy in Jakarta in April 2011. Since then, the Mission has played an important role in advancing Fiji’s interests and strengthening engagement with Southeast Asia.
Ambassador Tikoca brings to the role, extensive experience in leadership, public service and in promoting sustainable national development. Ambassador Tikoca, is a civil engineer by profession, served as Colonel in the Fiji Military Forces, a civil servant, member of parliament, traditional leader, entrepreneur and former High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea. His appointment reflects Fiji’s confidence in his ability to further strengthen relations with Indonesia and identify new opportunities that will benefit both countries.
Ambassador Tikoca emphasised that Indonesia is an important friend, partner of Fiji and looks forward to further strengthening the bilateral relations and identifying new opportunities of mutual benefit.
