UNGA81 | Hon. Ditoka Meets Japan’s Minister for Foreign Affairs

Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka participated in the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Foreign Ministers Meeting on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week in New York.
Convened by the Government of India and chaired by Minister of External Affairs of India, Hon. S. Jaishankar, the meeting brought together leaders from Pacific Island countries to discuss shared priorities and the evolving Indo-Pacific landscape, including the region’s changing geopolitical dynamics.
In his intervention, Minister Ditoka reaffirmed Fiji’s longstanding ties with India, noting the shared historical experience and the enduring contribution of the Girmitiya community, whose arrival in Fiji in 1879 has become an integral part of Fiji’s multicultural society.
Minister Ditoka thanked India for its continued support to Fiji and the Pacific, highlighting the landmark 100-bed Super Speciality Hospital in Fiji, an outcome of the 3rd FIPIC Forum held in Papua New Guinea in 2023.
He also highlighted the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF) and called for continued investment by development partners to ensure the Facility is fully operational and equipped to support Pacific Island countries in addressing their climate adaptation and resilience needs.
Fiji reaffirmed its commitment to deepening its partnership with India at the bilateral, regional and multilateral levels.
