The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Dr. Raijeli Taga, led Fiji’s delegation to the annual Fiji-New Zealand High-Level Consultations held in Wellington, New Zealand.
The annual consultations provide an important platform for senior government officials from both countries to review progress under the Fiji-New Zealand Duavata Partnership, strengthen bilateral cooperation, and identify new opportunities for collaboration in response to evolving regional and global priorities.
In her opening remarks, Permanent Secretary Dr. Taga expressed appreciation for the warm welcome extended to the Fiji delegation, highlighting the strong people-to-people ties and enduring friendship that continue to underpin the Fiji-New Zealand relationship.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Taga noted that the consultations were taking place against the backdrop of an increasingly complex global landscape, characterized by heightened geopolitical tensions, ongoing conflicts, economic uncertainty, and the vulnerability of Pacific Island countries to external shocks. She emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation between Fiji and New Zealand in addressing these shared challenges.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Taga reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to working closely with New Zealand to advance shared priorities through practical cooperation. She underscored the importance of translating the outcomes of the consultations into initiatives that will deliver tangible benefits for the people of both countries and the wider Blue Pacific.
The Fiji–New Zealand High-Level Consultations remain an important mechanism for maintaining regular strategic dialogue, advancing bilateral cooperation and reinforcing the shared commitment of both countries to a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Blue Pacific.
