Fiji and Australia’s enduring partnership remains strong, underpinned by shared Pacific values, mutual trust, and a strong commitment to regional peace, security, and prosperity.
This was highlighted during a courtesy call by Australia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, H.E. Mr Peter Roberts, on the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Ambassador Solo Mara, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Suva.
The meeting reflected on a new chapter in Fiji-Australia bilateral relations, following the historic signing of the Vuvale Union and the Ocean of Peace Alliance (Veitacini Mutual Defence Treaty) by Prime Minister the Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka and Australian Prime Minister the Honourable Anthony Albanese in July this year.
Ambassador Mara also acknowledged Australia’s recent support in successfully delivering the Pacific’s first Pre-COP31 in Nadi, alongside Fiji and Tuvalu, as well as ongoing collaboration towards the upcoming COP31 in Türkiye.
High Commissioner Roberts congratulated Ambassador Mara on his recent appointment and expressed Australia’s commitment to further deepening cooperation between the two nations and the wider region.
Both officials acknowledged that continued dialogue, high-level engagements, and strong people-to-people connections remain central to advancing the bilateral partnership.
