Fiji and New Zealand are building on the significant progress achieved under the refreshed Duavata Partnership, with renewed focus on expanding trade and investment, strengthening bilateral ties and advancing shared priorities for a resilient and prosperous Blue Pacific.
This shared commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Honourable Sakiasi Ditoka, and New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Fiji, His Excellency Greg Andrews.
High Commissioner Andrews also took the opportunity to congratulate Ambassador Solo Mara on his appointment as the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Trade and reaffirmed New Zealand’s commitment to working closely with Ambassador Mara to advance shared aspirations for a peaceful, secure and prosperous Blue Pacific.
Ambassador Mara acknowledged New Zealand’s longstanding contribution to Fiji’s development and reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to translating the priorities outlined in the refreshed Duavata Partnership into meaningful outcomes for both nations.
Trade and investment remained a key focus, with discussions centred on expanding market access, identifying new export opportunities and addressing barriers to trade in pursuit of the shared ambition of achieving NZD 2 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.
On regional priorities, both sides reflected on recent Pre-COP31 engagements and the importance of amplifying the Pacific’s collective voice on climate action ahead of COP31 in Türkiye.
The discussions further highlighted the enduring strength of Fiji–New Zealand relations, founded on mutual trust, shared values and strong people-to-people connections. Both sides agreed to continue regular dialogue and sustain the positive momentum in bilateral and regional cooperation, guided by a common Pacific identity and the spirit of Duavata — unity, friendship and collective progress.
