The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade hosted a luncheon on Wednesday (22.04.2026) in honour of members of the diplomatic corps, expressing its sincere appreciation for their presence and support during the State Funeral of the late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau last week.
The luncheon, held at Albert Park Pavilion, was attended by the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and High Commissioner of Nauru to Fiji, His Excellency Michael Aroi, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the Council of Regional Organisations of the Pacific (CROP).
In her remarks, Honourable Qereqeretabua conveyed the deep gratitude of the Government and people of Fiji for the solidarity shown by the diplomatic corps during a period of national mourning. She acknowledged the heartfelt messages of condolence and the strong demonstration of unity, noting that such gestures further strengthen the enduring partnerships between Fiji and its international friends.
The luncheon provided an opportunity for continued engagement and reflection, underscoring the importance of cooperation, mutual respect, and shared values between Fiji and its diplomatic partners.
Speaking on behalf of the diplomatic corps, the Dean and High Commissioner, His Excellency Aroi, expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, as well as to the organising officials, for their efforts in coordinating the State Funeral arrangements. He also commended members of the diplomatic corps for their collective support and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strong relations with Fiji.
The Ministry reiterated its appreciation for the diplomatic corps’ continued engagement and support, emphasising that their presence at significant national events reflects the strong bonds shared with Fiji.
