The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua, received a courtesy visit from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Pacific Regional Representative, Ms. Heike Alefsen on Thursday 7 May 2026.
During the meeting, Honourable Qereqeretabua acknowledged the significant work carried out by the OHCHR across the Pacific and exchanged views on the recent informal visit by the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders, Ms. Mary Lawlor, the global challenges on multilateralism and human rights systems and incorporating a human rights lens into all decision-making levels in our community to ensure that actions, policies, and practices respect, protect, and fulfill the fundamental dignity and rights of all individuals. It ensures that decision-making is committed to justice, equity, and accountability.
The Ministry looks forward to continuing its close collaboration with the OHCHR Regional Office to advance human rights, good governance, and sustainable development for the benefit of all people in Fiji and the broader Pacific region.
