The Government of Fiji today joined the Embassy of France to Fiji in commemorating Bastille Day at a reception held at the French Residence in Suva, reaffirming the strong and enduring partnership between Fiji and France.
Representing the Government of Fiji, Chief of Protocol Ms Kiti Temo attended the reception alongside members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials and distinguished guests. The event marked the 237th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille in 1789, a defining moment in French history that gave rise to the national ideals of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.
Hosted by the Chargé d’Affaires of the French Embassy in Fiji, Mr Benjamin Delannoy, the reception celebrated the close friendship between Fiji and France and highlighted the shared values and mutual respect that continue to underpin bilateral relations.
In his address, Mr Delannoy reflected on the enduring relevance of the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity, noting their continued importance in an increasingly complex global environment. He also acknowledged the close relationship between France and Fiji as maritime neighbours in the Pacific, united by a shared commitment to regional cooperation, peace and prosperity.
Speaking on behalf of the Government of Fiji, Ms Temo conveyed Fiji’s congratulations to the Government and people of France on the occasion of their National Day. She reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and welcomed the continued collaboration between the two countries across a range of shared priorities.
Fiji and France enjoy a longstanding and productive partnership founded on friendship, mutual respect and shared interests in the Blue Pacific. The two countries work closely on regional security, maritime surveillance, climate resilience, disaster preparedness, environmental protection and the sustainable management of ocean resources. Regular high-level engagement, together with expanding cultural, educational and development cooperation, continues to strengthen the relationship and advance shared regional priorities.
The Government of Fiji values France as an important regional partner and looks forward to further deepening cooperation in support of a peaceful, resilient and prosperous Pacific region.
