The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Honourable Sakiasi Ditoka, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Dr Raijeli Taga, senior Ministry officials and Directors, visited the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development (CATD) on Friday, 3 July 2026, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to connecting the institution with international partners in technical and vocational education and training.
During the visit, the Minister commended CATD for equipping Fijians with practical skills that strengthen communities and drive economic development. He described technical and vocational education and training as critical to creating employment opportunities, improving livelihoods and building a more resilient future for Fijian families.
Honourable Ditoka said Fiji’s overseas missions are well placed to facilitate partnerships between CATD and countries with expertise in renewable energy, climate-resilient infrastructure, advanced manufacturing and digital technologies.
He noted that the Ministry could also support staff exchanges, scholarships and specialised training opportunities, while promoting labour mobility pathways for graduates seeking employment in overseas markets.
The Minister also highlighted the potential for CATD to develop into a regional centre of excellence, supporting fellow Pacific Island countries through knowledge sharing and technical capacity-building to address common regional challenges.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with CATD and its development partners to expand the institution’s reach and impact, recognising its important contribution to building a stronger, more resilient and more prosperous Fiji.
