The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Honourable Sakiasi Ditoka, held a bilateral meeting this week with Papua New Guinea’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Justin Tkatchenko, on the margins of the Melanesian Oceans Summit in Papua New Guinea.
At the high-level meeting, discussions focused broadly on advancing bilateral cooperation and addressing outstanding matters of mutual interest between the two sides.
Economic priorities were highlighted, with emphasis on improving market access for Fijian products to support trade and growth. In addition, both sides reviewed progress on formal cooperation mechanisms, particularly the Development Cooperation Agreement, noting that its conclusion would provide a framework for deeper collaboration across a range of sectors.
The Ministers committed to strengthening bilateral exchanges that delivers tangible benefits for the peoples of Fiji and Papua New Guinea and to working closely through regional mechanisms to advance shared interests and priorities.
Hon. Ditoka attended the Melanesian Oceans Summit in Port Moresby and was joined by the Minister for Fisheries and Forests, Hon. Alitia Bainivalu.
