Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka, this morning bid farewell to the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, the Honourable Matthew Wale, at Nausori Airport, marking the conclusion of his first official visit to Fiji.
Minister Ditoka thanked Prime Minister Wale for undertaking the timely visit to Fiji, describing it as a significant milestone in the continued advancement of Fiji–Solomon Islands relations. He said the visit provided an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation on regional priorities that are central to the prosperity, security and resilience of the Pacific.
Fiji and the Solomon Islands enjoy an enduring partnership founded on shared history, cultural ties and common values as members of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) and the wider Pacific family. Over the years, both countries have worked closely together to promote regional peace and security while championing Pacific priorities on the global stage, particularly in the areas of climate action, ocean stewardship and implementation of the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.
Prime Minister Wale’s official visit marks a new chapter in Fiji and the Solomon Islands’ shared commitment to advancing a peaceful, resilient and prosperous Blue Pacific for present and future generations.
