
Members of the Diplomatic Corps Continue to Pay Tribute to Former President, The Late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau

The State Funeral for former President, the late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, was held on Friday (17.04.2026) at Albert Park, marking a solemn moment of national mourning and reflection for Fiji.
The service drew a broad cross-section of society, reflecting the late Ratu Epeli’s standing nationally, regionally, and internationally.
Among those in attendance were Tupou VI; Salote Mafile’o Pilolevu Tuita; Lord Fakafanua; the President of the Republic of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu; Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka; and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and High Commissioner to Fiji, Michael Aroi. They were joined by members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Fiji Navy, Fiji Police Force, traditional leaders, and citizens from across the country.
Ratu Epeli’s distinguished public service included command of the Royal Fiji Military Forces, followed by senior diplomatic postings as Fiji’s High Commissioner to United Kingdom and Ambassador to Germany, Egypt, Israel, Denmark and the Holy See, where he advanced Fiji’s bilateral relations and strengthened the country’s international engagement.
Following the service, the cortege departed Albert Park for Bau Island, where he was laid to rest.
