Fiji has officially joined the Future of Investment and Trade Partnership (FIT-P) as its 20th full member, strengthening Fiji’s engagement with a group of like-minded economies working together to facilitate trade and investment, strengthen supply chain resilience and address emerging issues in the global trading system.
Fiji’s full membership follows Cabinet’s approval at its 16th meeting on 9 September 2026, following Fiji’s participation as an Observer at the Second FIT-P Ministerial and Senior Officials Meeting held in Auckland, New Zealand, in July 2026.
Established in September 2025, FIT-P is a voluntary and non-binding partnership of small and medium-sized, trade-dependent economies committed to supporting an open, predictable and rules-based international trading environment. The Partnership provides a platform for members to exchange practical experience, develop cooperation and collectively address issues that affect their ability to trade and attract investment.
As a small island developing state, Fiji faces particular challenges arising from its geographical distance from major markets, high transport and logistics costs, vulnerability to external shocks and natural disasters, and the costs associated with complying with increasingly complex international trade requirements.
FIT-P provides Fiji with an opportunity to work with economies facing many similar challenges and to bring a Pacific and Small Island Developing Economy perspective into discussions on the future of international trade and investment.
Through its membership, Fiji will participate directly in discussions and cooperation across areas including Supply chain resilience, Trade and investment facilitation, Non-tariff barriers, Digital and paperless trade, and Rules-based trade.
These areas align closely with Fiji’s efforts to improve trade facilitation, strengthen supply chain resilience, expand opportunities for Fijian businesses and exporters, and attract quality investment.
As a full member, Fiji will now have a direct role in the Partnership’s discussions and workstreams, rather than participating solely as an observer.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade will lead and coordinate Fiji’s participation in FIT-P, working closely with relevant Government ministries and agencies and engaging the private sector where appropriate.
With Fiji’s accession, FIT-P now comprises 20 economies: Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Costa Rica, Fiji, Iceland, Korea, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Morocco, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Rwanda, Singapore, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Uruguay.
Fiji will participate alongside these economies in shaping the Partnership’s future work and identifying areas where cooperation can deliver practical benefits for businesses, investors and economies.
