Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1970, our bilateral relation with Israel has been characterized by mutual respect, occasional high-level visits, and cooperation in areas of shared interest, including in agriculture, health, and capacity building initiatives.
Health – Israeli doctors have been visiting Fiji in recent years as part of the ongoing collaboration between our two Health Ministries.
Agriculture: Fiji currently has existing MOUs with Israel benefitting Fiji’s agricultural sector, most of which are facilitated through Israel’s MASHAV. Most recent MOU signing was held in 2024 which was the renewal of the MOU on a Plan of Cooperation which was initially signed in 2017. Under this MOU, more than 100 students from Fiji have benefitted through capacity building and internship programs in Israel.
Cybersecurity: MOU on Cybersecurity was signed in October 2025. The implementation of this MOU will further strengthen Fiji’s capabilities against the evolving threat posed by cyberattacks.
Defense & Security: engagement in defense and security between Fiji and Israel has been confined to UN Peacekeeping Operations through the UNIFIL in Lebanon, Syria, and MFO in Sinai, ensuring the protection of Israel’s borders and sovereignty.
The invitation extended to Fiji to be part of the International Stabilization Force in Gaza presents an ideal opportunity for further collaboration. This collaboration can be extended towards strengthening Fiji’s boarder security, maritime surveillance, and intelligence reconnaissance to support Fiji’s war against drugs.
