Fiji and Ireland look forward to deepening bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest, including socioeconomic development, climate change and sports diplomacy.
This was highlighted during a courtesy call by the new non-resident Ambassador of Ireland to Fiji, Her Excellency Fiona Flood, to the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Dr Raijeli Taga, following her presentation of credentials at the State House yesterday.
Dr Taga congratulated Ambassador Flood on her diplomatic appointment and wished her well for the tenure.
She acknowledged the ongoing cooperation between the two nations through the European Union and reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to further deepen engagements through continued collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET) and the Embassy of Ireland in Canberra, Australia.
In response, Ambassador Flood acknowledged the Government and the people of Fiji for their warm welcome and expressed her commitment to elevating the cooperation between the two nations. Ambassador Flood expressed her adoration for Fiji and their ability to continue to punch above their weight on the international stage, more specifically in the area of climate change.
Since the establishment of relations in 2022, Fiji and Ireland have enjoyed cordial ties based on shared values, mutual respect, and cooperation.
