
Prime Minister Rabuka meets with the President of Indonesia: reaffirms commitment to strengthen bilateral relations

The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua recently met with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation at the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) headquarters in Suva.
The meeting with the world’s largest humanitarian network in the world highlighted opportunities to strengthen humanitarian networking and cooperation. It also explored ways for Fiji and ICRC to work together through the Global Initiative on International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
Hon. Qereqeretabua welcomed the delegation and acknowledged ICRC’s worldwide humanitarian efforts to support those in need of humanitarian assistance. She affirmed the MFA’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing global humanitarian networking and promoting peace and security.
The Assistant Minister wished the ICRC delegation well for their deliberations in Fiji as they explored opportunities to further strengthen the cooperation.
The meeting highlighted the ICRC’s appreciation for the Oceans of Peace Concept for the Pacific region, an initiative led by the Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka.
ICRC delegation extended an invitation to Fiji to actively engage in the Global Initiative which seeks to make IHL a political priority at global, regional and domestic level, through consultations with various stakeholders.
ICRC’s Regional Legal Adviser for the Pacific, Ms. Eve Massingham thanked Hon. Qereqeretabua for the constructive discussions to deepen the cooperation between ICRC, Fiji and the broader Pacific region.
