The Prime Minister Honorable Sitiveni Rabuka met with the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Minister for the Indo-Pacific and Equalities, Ms Seema Malhotra, for a bilateral meeting on Monday, 27 April 2026, held on board the Royal Navy Patrol Ship HMS Tamar berthed at Suva Wharf.
PM Rabuka welcomed Minister Malhotra on her first official engagement to Fiji since her recent UK government appointments, congratulating her on her dual roles and praising her leadership in strengthening UK-Pacific climate cooperation. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to deepening collaboration with the United Kingdom and regional partners for a more resilient partnership.
During the meeting, PM Rabuka underscored Fiji’s active role within the Commonwealth of Nations and its continued contributions to the global sustainable development agenda.
PM Rabuka noted the successful hosting of the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting earlier this year, where key discussions reinforced the importance of resilience, climate action, economic growth, and sustainable development through shared priorities that remain central to ongoing dialogue between Fiji and the United Kingdom.
Hon. Rabuka highlighted Fiji’s upcoming hosting of the Pre-COP meeting in October and expressed his anticipation of the United Kingdom’s continued support and active participation.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining and strengthening the longstanding bilateral relationship between Fiji and the United Kingdom.
In her remarks, Minister Malhotra expressed their sincere appreciation for the warm welcome extended to her and her delegation, reaffirming the United Kingdom’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Fiji and the wider Pacific region.
Minister Malhotra commended Fiji’s leadership on climate advocacy, regional cooperation, and its proactive role in advancing sustainable development goals.
The meeting concluded with both leaders expressing confidence in the continued growth of Fiji – United Kingdom relations, underpinned by shared values, mutual respect, and a collective commitment to addressing global and regional challenges.
