The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade continues to closely monitor the evolving security situation in the Middle East region, following the mutual understanding today by the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America to cease hostilities for a duration of two (2) weeks.
The Ministry stresses that the security situation remains volatile and may escalate further without warning during the two (2) week period. The Ministry reiterates that while the mutual ceasefire between the parties to the conflict is a positive diplomatic development, the regional security environment in the Middle East region remains fluid and unpredictable.
The prevailing conflict may cause widespread travel disruptions, including extensive restrictions to movements. Travel plans for Fijian nationals may be affected, even if your destination is not the Middle East region.
Fijian nationals are strongly advised against all travel to the following countries, including airport transit:
- LEVEL 4 (): Avoid all travel, including transit to the following countries:
Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen.
- LEVEL 3 (): Avoid all non-essential travel to or through the following countries:
Jordan, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.
- LEVEL 2 (): Exercise increased caution
Heightened risks. Remain vigilant and monitor local media.
- LEVEL 1 (): Exercise Normal Precautions
Stable security environment. Standard safety awareness required.
Fijian nationals are encouraged to consider voluntary evacuation from affected areas as soon as practical. If you choose to remain in the Middle East region, it is advisable to follow warnings from local authorities and avoid areas deemed to be at high risk.
For those with relatives or family members in the Gulf region, the Ministry encourages you to remain in regular contact with them to stay informed of their safety and security.
The Ministry continues to closely monitor developments and remains engaged with Fiji’s diplomatic missions in the Middle East region and beyond, to ensure the safety and welfare of all Fiji nationals affected by the conflict.
All Fijian nationals have the full support of their Government, and no effort will be spared to ensure their safety and welfare during these troubled times.
