The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade expresses its profound condolences at the passing of former President and Speaker of House, the late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
The late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau leaves behind a distinguished and enduring legacy, remembered as a deeply respected leader and a true servant of the people. His exemplary leadership was marked by blend of cultural grounding, diplomatic excellence, and genuine accessibility, which earned him admiration both at home and abroad. His legacy of service, dignity, and commitment will continue to inspire the nation and the region for generations to come.
He dedicated his life to serving the nation in many important roles — from Commander of the Royal Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) to Fiji’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, a Government Minister, UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for the Pacific, and Colonel of the Regiment.
He also played a pivotal role in regional and national initiatives, including chairing the first Pacific Parliamentarians meeting on HIV in 2004 and advancing Fiji’s human rights-based HIV/AIDS advocacy.
The late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau was a charismatic and principled leader, he consistently championed the national interests and inspired generations of leaders and diplomats.
The Ministry expresses sincere condolences and prayers to the family and friends of the late Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and join the nation and the region during this time of mourning.
