Fiji warmly welcomes the Pacific leaders and international delegation to our shores as we begin an important week of climate discussions at the Pacific Pre-COP31 in Nadi from 5 to 8 October 2026.
The leaders upon arrival have been accorded with 100-men Guard of Honour from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) at Nadi International Airport.
The welcoming delegation included Fiji’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, Fiji’s High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, Mr Jackson Evans, Chief of Protocol, Ms. Kiti Temo and senior government officials.
Among the leaders welcomed on Sunday 4th October included:
- Prime Minister of the Cook Islands, Hon. Mark Brown
- President of the Republic of Naoero, H.E. David Adeang
- Premier of Niue, Hon. Dalton Tagelagi
- President of New Caledonia, H.E. Milakulo Tukumuli
Pacific leaders will be joined by ministers and senior representatives from around the world as Fiji, Tuvalu and Australia partner to deliver the Pre-COP31 program in the Pacific.
Hosting Pre-COP31 in Fiji places the Pacific at the centre of critical global climate discussions and provides an important platform for the Pacific’s priorities, perspectives and experiences to directly inform the pathway towards COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye.
It also provides global decision-makers with an opportunity to hear directly from Pacific communities at the frontline of climate change while recognising the leadership, resilience and practical climate solutions emerging from across the region.
Pre-COP31 brings together a representative group of countries ahead of the formal COP negotiations to build trust, bridge differences and identify areas of convergence. This year’s meeting provides a significant opportunity to ensure that Pacific priorities and leadership are firmly reflected in the global climate agenda.
The visiting leaders and delegations will be formally welcomed to Fiji during a traditional welcome ceremony at the Sheraton Resort this evening.
