PRE-COP31 | Fiji and IOM Strengthen Cooperation on Climate Mobility and Community Resilience

Prime Minister of Australia, The Hon Anthony Albanese MP arrived at the Nadi International Airport yesterday afternoon (5.10.26) for the Pacific Pre-COP31 Meeting.
Prime Minister Albanese was accorded a 100-member Guard of Honour mounted by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) and was received by Fiji’s High Commissioner to New Zealand, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, Fiji’s High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, Mr Jackson Evans and Chief of Protocol, Ms. Kiti Temo. Australia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, His Excellency Mr Peter Roberts also accompanied the Fiji delegation.
Australia is partnering with Fiji and Tuvalu to deliver the Pacific Pre-COP31, bringing Pacific priorities, leadership and climate solutions to the forefront of global discussions ahead of COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye in November 2026.
Australia’s support for the Pacific Pre-COP31 reflects its continued commitment to working closely with Pacific nations to advance shared regional priorities, including climate action, resilience, and regional peace and security.
The Pacific Pre-COP31 provides an important platform to ensure the voices and priorities of Pacific Island countries is at the centre stage of the upcoming COP31.
Hosting the Pre-COP in the Pacific also provides global decision-makers with an opportunity to engage directly with the region on the frontline of climate change and to see first-hand the solutions, resilience and leadership emerging from Pacific communities.
The meetings this week includes a Leaders’ event in Tuvalu from 5 to 6 October, followed by the ministerial Pre-COP meeting in Nadi from 7 to 8 October.
