Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka attended a special reception last night onboard the U.S. 7th Fleet flagship, USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19), docked at Kings Wharf in Suva, to commemorate the 249th anniversary of the United States of America’s independence.
The event was attended by members of cabinet, Assistant Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, members of the diplomatic corps, defence representatives and distinguished guests.
It also underscored the enduring friendship between the U.S. and Fiji, highlighting the shared democratic values and growing cooperation between the two nations.
Prime Minister Rabuka welcomed the visiting fleet and its members and expressed appreciation for the U.S. Navy’s continued engagement in the Pacific.
The USS Blue Ridge, the flagship of the U.S. Seventh Fleet, is currently visiting Fiji as part of its regional engagement and goodwill tour.
The vessel serves as a symbol of the United States’ commitment to the Pacific and ongoing efforts to strengthen defence and humanitarian partnerships across the region.
Fiji and the U.S. will mark 49 years of diplomatic relations this year, celebrating decades of partnership, mutual respect, and bilateral cooperation across a range of shared priorities.
