Overview of Ministry’s role and functions
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is Fiji’s gateway to the world. It plays an important role in advancing Fiji’s foreign policy goals, managing Fiji’s interest with the global and regional development partners through maintaining and strengthening diplomatic relations and building cooperation.
Fiji has established formal diplomatic relations with 182 countries around the globe and has 13 Overseas Diplomatic Missions and 1 Roving Ambassador’s Division (RAD).
In recognizing that development assistance is influenced largely by stable political relations, the Ministry closely engages with all our development partners at bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels in advancing Fiji’s national development priorities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its diplomatic Missions located around the world provides consular services to all Fijians living overseas, organise high-level visits to Fiji, lobbying for hosting of high-level meetings and international conferences in Fiji and general promotion of Fiji as a country.
Fiji is proudly represented at the world stage and demonstrates its capability to lead on many issues confronting humanity, from climate change to ocean sustainability, protection of human rights, to sustainable development.
