Fiji and New Zealand commit to an enhanced partnership

At the conclusion of today’s Fiji–New Zealand High Level Consultations, representatives from the Fiji and New Zealand Governments have agreed to deepen and extend the areas of cooperation between the two countries.

“Our Duavata Partnership covers an extensive range of shared objectives for Fiji and New Zealand, and I was pleased to agree with my New Zealand counterpart, Mr Bede Corry, that we will refresh and enhance this Partnership for the years ahead,” said Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Permanent Secretary, Dr Raijeli Taga.

“The refreshed Duavata Partnership will outline how we can maximise our bilateral priorities and work together to play a constructive role in strengthening prosperity, peace and security, resilience, and sustainability across our wider Blue Pacific region as well as globally,” Permanent Secretary Taga added.

“New Zealand places great importance on our relationship with Fiji,” New Zealand’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr Bede Corry, said.
“Our High Level Consultations today have confirmed just how many shared priorities we have, whether on boosting prosperity, improving social well-being and democratic governance, deepening security, or responding to climate change and natural disasters. These priorities extend from how we work together bilaterally to how we collaborate as partners in our wider Pacific region and beyond,” added Secretary Corry.

A refreshed Duavata Partnership will be developed over the remainder of 2025.
