UNGA81 Fiji Reaffirms The Importance of The Declaration on the Right to Development

Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Honourable Sakiasi Ditoka and Permanent Secretary Ambassador Solo Mara visited the Google campus on 18 September 2026 during their stopover in San Francisco enroute to the #UNGA81 in New York.
It was an opportunity to discuss Fiji’s shared vision for advancing connectivity and infrastructure across the Pacific.
The discussion centered around the opportunity to explore how Google and the Government of Fiji can align our efforts in several vital areas for prospective collaboration, notably:
- Digital Exchange Port in Fiji: Establishing a Digital Exchange Port in Fiji creates a strategic Melanesia Hub that will positively impact the broader region through expanded subsea connectivity.
- Building Resilient Infrastructure: Developing diverse international connectivity to Australia, a redundant cable corridor in Natadola and a secondary internet access point to the Fintel VCC is fundamentally transforming the country’s digital resilience.
- Driving Economic and Community Impact: Cultivating local technical partnerships and supporting comprehensive digital development across Fiji to maximize the societal benefits of an open and accessible internet.
