Fiji’s High Commissioner to the Republic of India His Excellency Mr Jagnnath Sami presented his credentials as Fiji’s non-resident High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Bhutan to the King of Bhutan His Majesty, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, at the Grand Kuenrey Hall, Tashichhodzong in Bhutan, on 17th February 2026.
High Commissioner Sami joined the 6 High Commissioners from other countries, in presenting their credentials and having interactive discussions with His Majesty, the King of Bhutan.
The King of Bhutan congratulated the Commissioners and wished them well in their diplomatic roles and reaffirmed commitment to strengthen mutual collaboration.
The King also briefed the High Commissioners on the proposed “Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC)”, enactment of GMC Law No. 1 of 2024, establishing a government framework that reinforces the autonomy and economic development capacity of the GMC Special Administrative Region. One country with two (2) systems. He invited Fiji for investments in the GMC.
Following the credentials ceremony, High Commissioner Sami and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of the Royal Government of Bhutan, Hon. Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel convened a bilateral meeting during which they discussed potential collaboration in Tourism, Aviation, Cultural and Youth Exchange programs.
High Commissioner Sami also updated the Foreign Minister on the status of Bhutan’ s proposal for an Aviation agreement and both sides reaffirmed commitment to strengthen mutual cooperation.
