The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Sakiasi Ditoka today received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E Dupito Simamora, at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Suva.
The introductory meeting looked at current areas of cooperation and opportunities to further deepen bilateral relations between the two nations.
In his remarks, Hon. Ditoka acknowledged Indonesia’s ongoing collaboration with Fiji and reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthen cooperation particularly in areas such as Agriculture, Education, Fisheries and Forestry, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.
Ambassador Simamora congratulated Hon. Ditoka for his new appointment and reaffirmed Indonesia’s continued support for Fiji and the Pacific region, stating that Indonesia looks forward to deepening engagements aligned to our shared goals on sustainable development.
Discussions also highlighted the progress on the construction of a Regional Training Center on Agriculture in Dobuilevu, Ra, expanded cooperation in the education sector through the provision of scholarships and capacity building initiatives to strengthen disaster resilience. An exhibition is also organised in Fiji to market the locally made products as part of the cooperation in Bamboo Industry development.
Both sides expressed their commitment to continue to collaborate on common values of respect and understanding, as the two nations will mark 52 years of diplomatic relations this year.
As part of his official engagements over the next few weeks, Hon. Ditoka will be meeting the Heads of Diplomatic Corps and Representatives of International and Regional Organisations in Fiji.
