The Public Service Commission has approved the closure of non-essential Government offices over the Christmas and New Year period, from 29 December 2025 to 2 January 2026.
Members of the public who may require services from non-essential Government agencies are encouraged to do so before the closure period to avoid any inconvenience.
Acting Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr. Pita Tagicakirewa, confirmed that all essential services will remain fully operational, with appropriate staffing arrangements in place to ensure uninterrupted delivery of critical public services.
He further noted that Permanent Secretaries will have the discretion to determine whether skeleton staff are required to maintain specific services, and to put in place suitable rosters and coverage arrangements where necessary.
“This shutdown period provides an opportunity for our civil servants to rest and spend quality time with their families and loved ones over the festive season,” Mr. Tagicakirewa said.
He added that this period of rest is expected to have a positive impact on staff well-being and morale.
