The Fiji Country Pavilion in the 8th China Import Expo in Shanghai was a hub of activity as Fijian exporters engaged in business negotiations with Chinese importers and distributors during the 6-day international event.
Counselor at the Fiji Embassy in Beijing and Fiji’s focal conference Manager at the Expo, Mr Ratish Singh said, “The energy and focus in the Fiji pavilion have been extraordinary. This is where the real business takes place beyond the policy work”.
Visitors were able to enjoy the fresh aroma and taste of ground barista grade Fijian coffee in the Fiji lounge, quench their thirst with a range of premium branded bottled water from Fiji, enjoy Fijian kava and were queuing up for a taste of Fiji tuna sandwiches made by the Fijian student volunteers studying in universities in China.
Business meetings and market visits facilitated by the Fiji Embassy in China provided the exporters with a comprehensive overview of the opportunities and realistic pathways to market their products in China.
Further, the Embassy staff ensured meetings were tailored to each exporter’s profile – enabling exporters to have immediate exchange of product samples during meetings with detailed discussions on pricing, product packaging, and product variations, feedback on the market trends, promotion and distribution pathways, and market expectations.
Beyond showcasing and into the realm of understanding and educating exporters of the Chinese market – Fiji exporters are not just presenting products; they are building the commercial bridges that will define Fiji-China trade for years to come. The interested leads and the discussions are a clear indicator of the Chinese demand for high quality and organic products from Fiji. Many exporters have expressed their enthusiasm to return to participate in the 2026 CIIE in Shanghai.
