Honiara- Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka and Prime Minister Rt.Hon Christopher Luxon met at the margins of the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting today, where they reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and strong partnership between Fiji and New Zealand.
The two leaders exchanged courtesies and reflected on the deep historical ties that continue to shape Fiji and New Zealand’s relationship.
Discussions during the meeting centered on the Duavata Partnership, which reflects the shared values, culture, and identity that has continued to unite Fiji and New Zealand over the years.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Rabuka acknowledged New Zealand’s continued support and affirmed the importance of further strengthening its ongoing programmes and initiatives in Fiji.
He thanked New Zealand for its steadfast support and “Duavata” spirit across areas of mutual interest.
In his response, Prime Minister Luxon acknowledged the sentiments and commitment expressed by Prime Minister Rabuka and reaffirmed his support for the Ocean of Peace concept.
He expressed New Zealand’s commitment to strengthening bilateral trade with Fiji, with the goal of reaching the $2 billion mark.
He further underscored New Zealand’s continued cooperation with Fiji in areas such as the fight against HIV/AIDS, combating transnational organised crime, addressing drug trafficking, and other areas of mutual interest.
In concluding, Prime Minister Luxon reiterated that New Zealand stands ready to consider and assist with any future requests from Fiji.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations and agreed to explore new areas of cooperation.
