The historic State visit by the His Majesty King Tupou VI and Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u, of the Kingdom of Tonga began this morning upon their arrival at the Nausori Airport.
As part of the first engagement for the day, His Majesty King Tupou VI was accorded with the 100 men Guard of Honour mounted by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF). Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, along with the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, welcomed His Majesty King Tupou VI and Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u, of the Kingdom of Tonga, upon their arrival at the State House.
The occasion reflected on the enduring partnership and regional cooperation between the two nations and our shared commitment to the peace and prosperity of the Pacific family.
Following the Guard of Honour, the Majesties were accorded with a Traditional Welcoming Ceremony which was attended by the cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic corps and invited guests.
The State visit from the Kingdom of Tonga represents a landmark diplomatic engagement for the Pacific region and it’s a platform to further deepen cooperation on mutual priorities such as climate change, economic resilience and sustainable development.
