The Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledges the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for its commitment in supporting Fiji’s national development through its ongoing projects in key sectors such as renewable energy, health and education, agriculture, climate resilience and economic development. As part of this commitment, KOICA continues to review and assess the progress and impact of these initiatives to ensure they align with Fiji’s evolving needs.
The KOICA has been actively supporting various programs in Fiji, with key focus on two main priority areas: combating climate change and enhancing the healthcare system. In line with Fiji’s National Development priorities, KOICA remains engaged in discussions with the Government of Fiji to assess specific needs and develop collaborative projects. For the next three years (2025–2027), KOICA has committed approximately USD $27.04 million in funding, with around USD $15.38 million allocated to the health sector and USD $11.66 million to the renewable energy sector.
The Ministry acknowledges KOICA’s contribution to strengthening the bilateral relations between Fiji and Korea, and in ensuring that implementation of development initiatives align with Fiji’s National Development Goals. Since 2026 will be the ten-year anniversary for KOICA Fiji Office, KOICA and the Ministry looks forward to enhancing the initial fruits of remarkable ten years of collaboration in alignment with Fiji’s national development priorities.
Presently, KOICA is working collaboratively with relevant ministries to assess the critical needs in Fiji and explore potential support initiatives in this critical area and expanding to explore areas such as education for digital literacy. It has also engaged in providing technical support through the training opportunities for Fiji Government Officials and World Friends Korea program with the deployment of experts within the fields of Community Development, Health, Education and Digital Media.
Similarly, KOICA extends its appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its ongoing support for the projects currently ongoing in Fiji and it looks towards continued collaboration to further drive progressive opportunities between Fiji and Korea.
Additionally, KOICA aims to provide capacity building initiatives in Fiji through its training programs and scholarships, which have empowered Fijian professionals with valuable skills and expertise. The agency continuously evaluates the impact of these initiatives to ensure they effectively contribute to Fiji’s human resource development and long-term growth.
